We've Arrived on The Big Island

Kerry:

On October 1st we boarded a plane in LAX and away we went.

On the flight we met a guy in the isle across from us. He's lived on the island for nearly 20 years. He lets us know that he owns a discount travel ticket business, and anything we want to do on the island he will give us an amazing deal. SCORE...and we aren't even off the plane yet.

Nice guy too. His name is Charlie, and he owns VIP (Visitor Information Publication) as well as Aloha Coast Realty. If you're going to the Big Island pick up his VIP map while you're waiting for your luggage at baggage pick up. Then give him a call and tell him we sent you. :)

We then rented our convertible and headed toward Kalapana area in Pahoa. It was dark, the Coqui Frogs chirping like made as we drove, top down. I didn't know what it looked like all around me, since it was dark, but it smelled tropical.

We arrived at the Beach House we're renting for the month. GORGEOUS! http://www.hawaiioceanhome.com/

This is our view the next morning:

View from our Lanai, to the right down the coast, near Kalapana Village in Pahoa, HI.

Went to Maku'u Farmers Market to stock up on produce and had a bite to eat for lunch. Great place for both: http://www.yelp.com/biz/makuu-farmers-market-pahoa#hrid:3D3_JR8XYsg2CDb2usdVTw/src:self

Randy's father lives on the Big Island, so he stopped by the house later to bring us his camping gear. Yes...we're gonna go camping a bit while we're here. Apparently there are some amazing spots, and we don't want to miss them.

Had dinner at Luquin's Mexican Restaurant, which is going to be our new hangout for the month. Delicious margaritas, super friendly fun staff, live music. 15 minutes away from the house in Old Town Pahoa. What a great find. http://www.yelp.com/biz/luquins-mexican-restaurant-pahoa#hrid:joVEKs_zxe1JHtbc0hF2dQ

Great start to our trip! ALOHA!
